Velbus training - Level 1 quiz

The Velbus training - Level 1 quiz  is designed to help check that the learning you have undertaken has been effective and that you are confident to install a Velbus system.

Some answers to questions are obvious, others will take some thinking about.

There is nothing in here that is designed to trip you up, but there might be a few that just make you stop and think about the answer a little.

Please don't rush through this quiz, take your time and where needed break away for a rest or to look at other learning resources to check your answers.

Check the downloads page of www.velbus.co.uk or Youtube.com/@Mdarltd
The main Velbus website is a great source of information - www.velbus.eu  as is the official Velbus YouTube channel youtube.com/@velbus_home

LOOK OUT for the small black (i) icon on some questions.

Be aware that we can't review anything until you submit your answers are the very end.
An email acknowledgement will be sent to you automatically, with a basic certificate if you have passed.

Thank you for taking the Velbus basic installer exam and giving us your feedback.

When you fully submit the answers at the END of the quiz, the system should send you a basic email.

We will review the results and issue full certificates to the same email.

You are welcome to retake this exam as many times as you wish, either to improve your score or to refresh your knowledge.

Meaning, is the system well documented and open to people fully engaging with the it.

For example,
Can  you use a publicly accessible repository like GitHub to get information on the construction of the data packets and memory maps of modules?

To encourage third party software developers to Velbus into their products.

5 / 50

Your project has both heating and cooling systems in each zone, do you need a separate Velbus thermostats to control each system within that zone?

Or can ONE Velbus thermostat be used to control multiple sources of heating and cooling in each zone?

6 / 50

A client with a working Velbus system, wants to extend their network to an adjacent building.
Is this possible?

These resources may help you.

Remember that "network topology" is a very broad field, we are strictly referring to how an mains voltage or CANbus electrical installation may be wired.

Which wiring topologies can be used with Velbus.

Select all that you think are acceptable to use with a Velbus system.

8 / 50

With a purely centrally controlled system (Not Velbus),
which of the following can result in a complete system failure if it were to breakdown?

Select as many as you think apply.

Not just that a small part of the system would stop, which of these options would cause the whole network to fail.

View this video to compare a centralised control system to a de-centralised control system.

9 / 50

Strictly speaking, does a Velbus system require a central processor in order to perform "mission critical" functions, like lighting control or heating management.

Mission Critical = Where a user presses a button and a light is toggled or a thermostat calls for heat and the zone and heat source responds, without the risk of failure.

Non Mission Critical might be an advanced feature like a button press triggering music playback.

10 / 50

Which industry standard device communication protocol was used as a benchmark during the development of the Velbus protocol, which we now say that the protocol is based on?

In other words, where did Velbus get the inspiration for the device communication style from?

11 / 50

Is it possible to link multiple Isolated Velbus networks together?

(Where two areas of a building or site operate in complete isolation, yet can be viewed from a management console)

For example, within the same building (As in an office block, HMO or Apartment Building) or a collection of buildings on an estate, where each building can function without interacting with another, yet a management team can view and influence the operations of every Velbus network.
